All schools in NSW teach mandatory syllabuses as outlined by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
A syllabus is a document that outlines the specific content and requirements for a particular course or subject within a school. It is typically created by teachers or educational institutions to guide students through the material that will be covered throughout the course.
New K–6 syllabuses
New K–6 syllabuses have been developed concurrently for the first time in 50 years, creating a cohesive curriculum that supports depth of learning and student achievement.
What’s new?
- Greater clarity in what is essential for students to know, understand and do.
- More opportunities for students to apply their knowledge and skills.
- Access Content Points to support students with significant intellectual disability in all learning areas.
The syllabuses are available on the NSW Curriculum.
Schools have access to support materials including teaching advice on the NSW Curriculum to assist with implementation.
More resources will be made available over time including online accredited professional development on NESA’s online learning hub.
