Teachers are invited to join and complete a course which provides an introduction to the Results Analysis Package (RAP) from 9:00 – 10:30 am on Friday 16 December. This course has been developed specifically to meet the needs of teachers new to RAP or teachers in need of a refresher.
NESA staff will guide teachers on navigating functions within RAP that will assist in analysing the HSC results released the previous day.

HSC Data Analysis Seminar Programme, Jan-Feb 2023 (Ref: 278/22)
A seminar programme, running from January to February 2023 concerning the analysis of the upcoming HSC results, will be of interest to teachers, principals, and leaders of curriculum or pedagogy. Three seminars will be offered providing general information regarding analysis, a more detailed look at particular results for your school and ways in which principals and school leaders can guide their schools using the results.

NetID Registration
Before attending any of the face-to-face seminars listed below, it is essential that every participant has a functioning NetID logon, and have been able to use that to access both the HSC Data Analysis Users portal, and within that the online Tutorial (see below). (Access to the Complete Report for your school is not enough!)
The Online Tutorial
Before attending any of the face-to-face seminars listed below, it will be extremely useful for intending participants to have completed the online tutorial which has been created to support users of the HSC Data Analysis. It is accessed within the HSC Data Analysis Users portal: on the LHS of the portal, click on “Tutorial” then “HSC Analysis Online Tutorial Modules” then “Access Catholic Schools New South Wales online PL here”. Go to “NESA Elective PD”, and scroll down to “Catholic Schools New South Wales HSC Analysis Online”.
The tutorial consists of 17 modules each of which takes the user through a different aspect of the Analysis. Each module consists of a short video followed by a 3-question quiz.
While teachers can complete the tutorial solo, by far the best professional learning comes from undertaking them with a colleague. Work through both the content and the quiz together and look at examples of what is provided in each video within your school’s own Analysis. It’s in the discussion that the learning occurs.
Diocesan Officers’ Overview
Target group: Diocesan & congregational system officers

Programme: A walk-through of how you use the system-level reports in conjunction with school reports to support schools. New developments in the 2022 HSC Analysis and 2023 seminar programme, including opportunities for cross-system sharing and key features of the 2022 HSC. A NESA representative has been invited to attend to talk briefly about the 2022 results, marking operation and NESA services available to the diocese.

HSC Analysis #1: Introduction to the Analysis
Target group: Teachers, KLA coordinators and others who have not previously attended an HSC seminar, and for those who have but who want to ‘brush up’ on the main ideas behind the Analysis. It’s very handy if two or more people from the same school can enrol for the same seminar.
When: Offered twice, on both occasions at Sydney Masonic Centre, 66 Goulburn St.

- Monday 20 February 2023, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Programme: Why and how we should use data within schools to shape the direction of pedagogy. What we are trying to do with the Analysis, and how does it fit with the Board’s RAP? The idea of Comparative Learning Gain, and how it can be used to understand HSC data. A guided reading of your school’s Analysis.

HSC Analysis #2: A detailed reading of your Analysis
Target group: Experienced users – any teacher, coordinator, AP or Principal who has previously attended at least one HSC Analysis Seminar. Applicants will be asked to nominate the year in which they attended the earlier seminar.
When: Offered twice, on both occasions at Sydney Masonic Centre, 66 Goulburn St.
- Monday 6 February 2023, 9:00 am-3:00 pm
- Thursday 16 February 2023, 9:00 am-3:00 pm
Programme: The background data theory covered in HSC Analysis #1 will be assumed knowledge. After a brief revision of the main underlying premise of the Analysis, participants will spend most of this seminar in a detailed, guided reading of their own school’s Analysis, surfacing the questions in it and considering ways to resolution.

HSC Analysis #3: Leading your school in the Analysis
Target group: Principals, APs, Leaders of Curriculum or Pedagogy: those who have a whole-school focus rather than a one-KLA or year group. This program is targeted at senior leadership teams: principals with whoever in the school has carriage of leading the use of the Analysis and the necessary professional learning within the school.
When: Tuesday 14 February 2023, 9:00 am-3:00 pm
Where: Masonic Centre, 66 Goulburn St, Sydney
Programme: We will explore the intersection of leadership, data, teacher professional learning and student achievement. The idea of the seminar is to surface the questions that come from a reading of the school’s Analysis, and then to consider leadership responses to the issues that surface. Because leadership is essentially a team function, it is very useful if two or more members of a school’s senior leadership team can attend this seminar together.

Catholic Schools New South Wales ACU Sponsorship - Graduate Certificate Education (Highly Accomplished/Lead Teacher practice) (Ref: 275/22)
Catholic Schools NSW and the Australian Catholic University are offering fully funded scholarships for the Graduate Certificate Education (Highly Accomplished /Lead teacher practice). The graduate certificate articulates to 40 cps to a Master of Education or Master of Educational Leadership. It bridges the gap between the work of the higher-level standards and the academic and ongoing learning expectations of leaders in Catholic education. The course is designed and led by teachers accredited at high levels and participants are encouraged to network with an established group of aspiring and accredited HALTs.
The course is fully funded across two semesters. Please note there is a one-off student services fee of $244 which is the responsibility of the student.

Tune in for a presentation delivered by teacher and experienced school leader, Dr John Kyle-Robinson at 4:00 pm on Wednesday 7 December.
This presentation will discuss how teachers in Catholic Schools should be the primary conduits for New Evangelisation initiatives. Dr John will present research exploring teachers’ understandings and responses to the concept of the New Evangelisation.
Dr John’s presentation will be of interest to teachers and to those involved in the development of education policy within Catholic Schools.

NEW: NSW Cyber Security Course (Ref: 269/22)
The NSW Government has announced that secondary students will soon be able to experience a cyber security course developed collaboratively by the NSW Department of Education, industry and Cyber Security NSW. As part of the course, students will be able to learn the fundamentals of cyber security and practical skills such as building hardware and coding.
Cyber Security NSW has also invested in the development of Cyber City. Cyber City is an open source and industry-aligned set of pedagogical resources and methods to support teachers introducing inquiry-led, cyber security and digital innovation concepts in the classroom. The learning program integrates diverse concepts from the hardware and networking level up to programming and the design and testing of the smart city systems. The open-source platform will help teachers deliver the new cyber security curriculum, including the new iSTEM Cyber Security specialised topic.
Schools and teachers are invited to register their interest to participate or integrate the cyber security learning experiences in their classrooms from 2023.

SAVE THE DATE: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Servicemen Commemoration Service (Ref: 261/22)
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans & Services Association, supported by The Returned and Services League of Australia (New South Wales Branch) and the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs, will be conducting the annual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Servicemen and Servicewomen Commemoration Service around the Pool of Reflection at the Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park South in Sydney on Friday 26 May 2023 from 10.40am to 12:00pm.
The inaugural Indigenous Veterans Commemoration Service in Sydney took place in 2007, following the formation of a planning committee made up of representatives from Aboriginal organisations, the Returned and Services League of Australia (NSW Branch) and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The planning committee has now expanded to now include representatives from each of the three school sectors and the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs.
The Commemoration Service took place in the last week of May 2007, to coincide with Reconciliation Week and has been held on last Friday of May each year since. It commemorates the service of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans, combining conventional military protocol with indigenous ceremonial display and with a focus on attendance by school children.
Join fellow schools from within NSW at this service where students will have the opportunity to lay a floral tribute. Schools are encouraged to make a floral tribute using local flora and native plants.

Open NOW: Bendigo Bank Scholarships (Ref: 279/22)
Applications for Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s diverse range of 2023 scholarships – its long-standing Program dedicated to providing monetary support for tertiary students – opened 1 December.
Now in its 16th year, the Program provides students with the opportunity to access a range of scholarships – to the value of $5,000 – to help ease the financial burden associated with the transition to tertiary education.
From Thursday 1 December, students across the country can apply for dozens of different Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Scholarships, including:
- Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Uni Scholarship for rural and regional students– 12 scholarships of $6,500 per student, per year, for two years.
- Bendigo Bank TAFE Scholarship for rural and regional students– Five scholarships of $5,000 per students, per year, two years
- Robert Johanson Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Board Scholarship –One Scholarship of $8,000 per year for two years.
- Bendigo Bank Indigenous Scholarship Program– Four scholarships of $6,500 per student, per year, for two years for those studying at either university or TAFE.
- Rural Bank Agribusiness Scholarship– Four scholarships, (including two Indigenous Agribusiness scholarships) of $5,000 per student, per year, for two years – students must demonstrate a desire to contribute to the Australian agricultural sector.
- Alexander & Bridget Jones – Montmorency Secondary College Scholarship– Scholarship for two graduates of Montmorency Secondary College studying full-time at The University of Melbourne in 2022.
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s Scholarship Program is one of the country’s leading, privately funded, scholarship programs. Established in 2007, the Program has provided $11 million to 1,336 students with an emphasis on students from regional and remote areas. In 2022, 292 scholarships were granted, providing $1 million directly to students.
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Chair, Jacqueline Hey, said the Bank considers the Scholarship Program an investment in the leaders of tomorrow.
“At Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, we are immensely proud of the support we’ve given thousands of students over the years,” Ms Hey said.
“Tertiary education can be costly and scholarships like these can make a big difference for many students. Our scholarships can be used to help finance the cost of travel, accommodation, tutoring, course materials or study equipment.
“Our purpose is to feed into the prosperity of our customers and their communities, and not off them, and our Scholarship Program is just one example of how we do that on a practical level. I urge eligible students to apply as soon as they begin accepting applications next week,” Ms Hey said.
Scholarships are also currently open for a number of Community Bank Scholarships, run in conjunction with the Bank’s charitable arm, Community Enterprise Foundation.
The scholarships on offer vary from different Community Banks and focus on university, TAFE, and secondary school study, with application dates closing by the end of January 2023.
Included in the 2023 Community Bank Scholarships are four scholarships from Lockmore Financial Services (LFS), for university and TAFE-bound students including those whose lives have been severely impacted by the recent Rochester flood event.
Two $3,000 scholarships will be made available to university students and two $1,500 scholarships to TAFE students. They will assist students with the start-up costs associated with their study including travel, accommodation, and school supplies.
LFS Chair, Brad Drust, said special consideration would be given to those students affected by the floods. with Applications open on 1 December 2022 and close on 31 January 2023.
“Our young people are our future, and we believe they deserve support to help forge their careers, and achieve their dreams,” Mr Drust said.
“Investing in education yields great long-term dividends. By helping young people gain access to further education, the returns to the student, their families and their community are significant,” Mr Drust said.
