REMINDER- NEW English and Mathematics K–2 syllabuses in 2023 (Ref: 152/22)
NESA has issued a reminder that the NEW English and Mathematics K–2 syllabuses must be taught in all NSW primary schools from Term 1, 2023.
The syllabuses are designed to improve student outcomes by focusing on essential learning and building foundational skills. Literacy and numeracy skills in the early years are essential foundations for later success at school.
The syllabuses are available on the new Digital Curriculum platform, separated clearly into both subject and school-stage categories.
New evidence-based support materials are available for teachers and schools to prepare and plan for implementation:
- Teaching advice
- Teaching resources
- NSW Primary Curriculum Professional Learning for teachers (NESA-accredited PD).

HAPPENING NEXT WEEK: NESA Standards and Results Analysis Package (RAP) Online Professional Learning (Ref: 149/22)
Catholic Schools NSW is partnering with NESA to explore NESA standards and the use of RAP to improve student outcomes by delivery of three courses. The courses will take place on:
Tuesday 2 August 2022, from 1.30-3.00 PM via ZOOM.
1. Using NESA Standards to Improve Student HSC Outcomes
Explore NESA Standards for the allocation of the HSC Bands using the performance band descriptions and the standards materials; Year 11 Grades using the Common Grade Scale; and the HSC Minimum Standards using the achievement level descriptions.

2. An Introduction to the Results Analysis Package (RAP)
NESA will guide teachers in a forensic investigation of the Results Analysis Package, exploring whole faculty/school trends and HSC Minimum Standards data to improve student HSC outcomes.

3. High End Results Analysis Package Users Forum
NESA will lead a guided discussion where three experienced Catholic teachers will share advanced techniques using the Results Analysis Package. Participants will explore and share best practice uses of RAP.

Save the Date- Catholic School Mental Health Symposium (Ref: 151/22)
Catholic Schools NSW is hosting a free Mental Health Symposium in Sydney on Monday 12 September, 2022.
Learn from and be inspired by some of Australia’s most renowned speakers on child and adolescent mental health.
The Symposium will focus on the issues most relevant to the mental health and wellbeing of today’s students.

Registrations Open- Catholic Schools New South Wales Virtual Symposium - Supporting Learning for K-12 (Ref: 155/22)
Catholic Schools New South Wales is providing an exciting professional learning opportunity for all school staff from K – 12 in a virtual format on Monday 10 October, 2022 from 9.00am to 3.30pm.
Schools will be able to engage as a full staff or as individual staff members.
The day will offer access to a range of international and national presenters including keynote speakers:
- Professor Jim Tognolini, CEMA University of Sydney
- Dr Jared Cooney, Horvath Educational Neuroscientist and author, University of Melbourne.
Teachers will select up to three workshops to attend virtually, across a range of areas, broadly focusing on primary, secondary and wellbeing. Workshops will be available in both synchronous and asynchronous modes, delivered by a range of educators from both school and university sectors.
There is no cost to participants joining the day.
A more comprehensive program will be available in later editions of Scholaris.
The symposium is pending NESA Accreditation and for this purpose we require individual teacher registration by following the link HERE.
Registrations Open- Professional Learning Webinar, "Responding and Reporting to Critical Online Incidents: School Settings" (Ref: 153/22)
This Professional Learning webinar by the ESafety Commission has been designed for wellbeing and school leaders who play a role in supporting or leading the immediate responding and/or reporting of actions associated with critical online incidents that occur within school communities.
During the webinar, case studies will be explored, incident assessment tools will be share in addition to ways of supporting both primary and secondary school students.
The workshop will cover:
- tools and strategies for responding to online incidents, with guidance for key issues such as cyberbullying, image-based abuse, fight videos, self-harm and suicide content
- eSafety reporting options
- key steps for Wellbeing and School leaders to collect evidence when making a report to eSafety

Modern Slavery: Uniform Procurement - Webinar (Ref: 150/22)

Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) Free Curriculum Resources Website (Ref: 146/22)
The AERO website contains information and resources for teachers including a Practice Hub and Rubrics for teachers. The Practice Hub contains evidence-based resources and information for teachers and educators including:
- Teaching practices
- Early childhood practices
- Classrooms resources for teachers
- Resources for early childhood teachers and educators (coming soon).

As a result, the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) was formed and is Australia’s independent education evidence body.”
Within the Practice Hub is Ochre. AERO partnered with Ochre Education to provide teachers with hundreds of free curriculum resources. These Ochre Education resources have been created by Australian teachers for teachers, support effective, evidence-based practices and address the learning expected in the Australian Curriculum. Currently, Year level 3 – 10 are available, accessed HERE.

CSPA 2022 Parent Survey on Student Wellbeing and Learning (Ref: 154/22)
The CSPA 2022 Parent Survey on Student Wellbeing and Learning is live and will remain open until Wednesday 31 August 2022.
The Survey is open to all parents or carers with a child in a Catholic School. The Survey seeks to understand what matters to parents and carers in the wellbeing and learning of their children.
Feedback will remain anonymous. The survey should take between 10-15 minutes to complete.
The feedback provided in the survey will assist CSPA in reporting to the Federal Government and Catholic education.

Tax, Super + YOU Competition for High School Students (Ref: 148/22)
The Australian Taxation Office invites students in years 7-12 to participate in the Tax, Super and You competition.
Entries will close at 5.00pm AEST on Friday 19 August 2022.
Prizes are awarded to the top 3 entries in both senior and junior categories (including a People’s Choice Award winner), totally $7,600.
Entry Criteria:
For your chance to become Australia’s next tax and super creative genius, you must:
- be a student in years 7–12
- be enrolled in the Australian education system
- submit an entry – up to 3 entries per person/group only
- complete a separate entry form for each entry
- complete a film or photo consent form for each person shown in your entry
- comply with the competition’s terms and conditions– including only using music with permission or an appropriate licence.
There’s no cost to enter the competition.
How to enter:
To enter, make a creative project that highlights your topic (which depends on your year at school). The topics are:
- Junior (Year 7–9): Tax, Super + Me – How tax impacts me in my daily life.
- Senior (Year 10–12): Top four things I need to know about tax and super when I start my first job.

Entry Deadline EXTENDED: CCSP 2022 Roger O’Sullivan Memorial Award for Family, School and Community Partnerships for Learning (Ref: 128/22)
Entries are open for the 2022 Roger O’Sullivan Memorial Award, run by the Council of Catholic School Parents (CCSP).
The new entry deadline is 4 August 2022.
The 2022 Roger O’Sullivan Memorial Award for Family, School and Community Partnerships for Learning is awarded to a school community, including parents and carers, that can demonstrate exemplary practice in building partnerships between home and school to enhance the learning outcomes of students. These projects may focus on faith formation, the school curriculum, student wellbeing, or any combination of the three.
The recipient of the 2022 Roger O’Sullivan Memorial Award will receive a tailored publicity campaign and $4,000 to further the initiative. More information and an application form are available here.
