Catholic Schools NSW invites principals, heads of governance and compliance, finance officers and others designated as ‘responsible persons’ in Catholic education to attend the 2023 Catholic Schools NSW Education Law Symposium. The theme of this year’s Symposium is Striving for Excellence: Catholic School Governance and Accountability.

The Symposium will be held on Thursday, 6 July.

This professional development forum will cover topics related to Catholic schools’ unique governance challenges. The day will feature presentations by guest speakers and panels, including high-profile industry experts and experienced administrators, providing insight and guidance for the future of our sector.

Catholic Schools NSW invites Catholic teachers and leaders from across the state to the two-day Secondary Curriculum Reform Conference – Embracing Change: Optimising Learning and Engagement from Thursday, 24 August to Friday, 25 August 2023.

The last two years for teachers in NSW have been a time of reflection and consultation on the future directions of the curriculum.

The reformed NSW syllabuses are the roadmap to this future. Now is the time to seize this once-in-a-generation opportunity to optimise learning and engagement, enhancing our practice across the secondary curriculum.

Please join Catholic teachers and leaders from across the state to consider this exciting opportunity and responsibility to make lasting change through the lenses of:

Catholic Schools NSW is recruiting for the position of Full Stack Developer.

The Full Stack Developer works as part of the Application Development team, reporting to the Head of Data & Information Systems. The Full Stack Developer will be an integral contributor to the design, planning and implementation of the CSNSW Cloud Platform and other ongoing software development projects as required.

The Full Stack Developer understands cloud platforms & architecture, database design and migration, systems integration, software development and security principles. This involves liaising with colleagues to assess and define what solution or system is needed, which means there may be periods of defined interaction as well as specific technical work.

The Full Stack Developer will have superior interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work collaboratively as a member of the CSNSW team and generally contribute to the work of CSNSW.

Modern Slavery Act Review (Ref: 97/23)

The Modern Slavery Act (MSA) Review Report has been tabled in Parliament with 30 recommendations, including:

• introducing penalties for non-compliance with statutory reporting requirements;
• lowering the reporting threshold from $100M to $50M; and
• amending the Act to require entities to have a due diligence system in place.

Survey - Mental Health Commission – How is digital technology impacting young people's mental health?​​​​​​​ (Ref: 96/23)

The National Mental Health Commission is looking into how digital technology affects young people’s mental health. We know that digital technology can affect young people’s mental health and wellbeing in both good and bad ways. We want to develop ideas that will encourage the benefits of digital technologies and decrease harmful impacts on young people.

The survey aims to understand better how young people use digital technologies and how this can impact them. This will allow us to build the evidence base, identify practical solutions and advise the Government and the mental health and suicide prevention sectors on what can be done to support young people in an increasingly digital world. The last date to complete the survey is 22 June 2023.

National Report on Schooling Portal Updated (Ref: 93/23)

ACARA has updated the National Report on Schooling Data Portal with new information on student and staff numbers, school finances and teacher education information. For the first time, this includes information on school attendance rates by socio-educational advantage, which shows an increasing gap in school attendance between the lowest and highest advantaged students.

Australian Government survey on the future of education (Ref: 90/23)

The Australian Government Review to Inform a Better and Fairer Education System (the Review) will make recommendations for Education Ministers to inform the next agreement to improve education outcomes in Australia and meet the current and future needs of students.

As part of the Review, the Government has engaged the Social Research Centre to survey Teachers, Parents and Students. This is an opportunity for teachers, parents and students to contribute their perspectives and help shape the future of education in Australia.

The Review will use survey results to help draft a consultation paper which will invite submissions from all stakeholders. Results will also inform the development of recommendations for the final report, which will advise Education Ministers on what targets and reforms should be included in the next National School Reform Agreement.

Help Raise the Roof for Survivors of Modern Slavery (Ref: 85/23)

The Sisters of Charity Foundation has partnered with The Salvation Army to provide transitional housing assistance and support to survivors, helping them build a new life and become independent.

This unique model provides survivors with accommodation tailored to individual needs and is designed to overcome the barrier of entering the rental market experienced by people with no previous rental or employment history.

Each survivor who enters the program will be supported through their transition to suitable accommodation. The Sisters of Charity Foundation heavily subsidises each rental payment for up to 12 months and provides a lump sum to set up the home with furniture and white goods.

Raise the Roof is a year long campaign designed to source the funding for accommodation and furniture. You can donate at any point throughout the year, although there is a particular focus on 28 – 31 July, with 30 July being the UN World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

NOW Open: Premier's Teacher Scholarships (Ref: 87/23)

Applications for the 2024 NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships are now open. The NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships provide an excellent opportunity for school-base educators to collaborate with other professionals in your chosen subject area and inspire positive outcomes for students in NSW schools. The scholarships are open to current temporary or permanent teachers in NSW government and non-government schools, TAFE NSW campuses, and early childhood centres. 

Successful applicants will be eligible for a grant of $10,000 to $15,000 for a five-week study tour to be completed in Australia or internationally.

In 2024, there are eleven NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships available across a range of key learning areas:
