REGISTRATIONS OPEN: Catholic Schools NSW 'Connected Catholic Communities' Symposium (Ref: 237/22)
The Catholic Schools NSW Connected Catholic Communities project was initiated in response to the need for Catholic education to explore what it means for Catholic schools to be ‘animated by communion and community’ in a contemporary context. The recent Plenary Council also concluded that as a Church we need to “re-shape our engagement with the world, our evangelizing mission and our works of service in a rapidly changing environment”. Consequently, the project has begun to explore the theology, educational research and practice which underpins the Catholic school as a community.
The upcoming project Symposium, to be facilitated by recognised educator and leader Phil Billington, is open to members of school leadership teams, parent liaison officers, family educators and members of our Catholic school communities in similar roles.

Members of your school community will be most welcome, as together with educational leaders, Parish and Catholic agencies, we explore the possibilities which might arise from the Connected Catholic Communities project and the aspirations of the Plenary Council.
Externally Delivered HSC VET Funding 2022 (RI/MPJP Schools) (Ref: 236/22)
Registered Training Organisations should now have issued invoices to RI/MPJP schools for the delivery of externally delivered HSC VET courses. Schools are asked to complete the ‘External Stage 6 HSC VET Provision for 2022’ form by Friday, 11 November 2022 and return via email to [email protected].

Catholic Schools New South Wales will aggregate all final costs and assess a pro rata share of funding for all participating schools. The final funding allocation to each school will continue to consider the following conditions:
- Schools with 10 or more students in the any one year (year 11 or 12) doing the same Industry Curriculum Framework externally to the school will pay the equivalent cost of having this course (120 Hours) delivered in school. (i.e. $10,000, equal to 1/5 of teacher’s salary, will be deducted from the total cost)
- The SAM formula will be applied to set an upper limit of grant funds for each school. This maximum level of funding considers the total Stage 6 enrolments and the school’s Socio-Economic Status.
- Schools are responsible for negotiating and paying all invoices (TAFE and/or Private Providers) and for financing the gap in funds to cover all TAFE and other Private Providers HSC VET bills for 2022.
Catholic Schools New South Wales will endeavour to release funds by Thursday, 24 November 2022.

The Catholic Schools NSW – CSSA Catholic Secondary Schools Forum will be held on Thursday 3 November 2022 at the Sydney Masonic Centre.
The Symposium theme ‘On the Horizon’ reflects our shared commitment to engaging in current and emerging issues in secondary education in Catholic schools. The symposium program will engage participants to reflect upon change within their school and beyond.
This event will bring together education and industry leaders to discuss current and emerging issues to extend the learning opportunities and outcomes available to students.

Date: Thursday 3 November 2022
Time: Registration opens at 8am for commencement at 8.30am. The Symposium will run until 4:00pm.
Location: Sydney Masonic Centre – 66 Goulburn Street, Sydney.
The location is close to Museum Train Station, the Light Rail, Buses or Secure Parking Stations.
Cost: There is NO COST to attend the Symposium.

An Introduction to the Results Analysis Package (RAP) - Online Course - December 16 2022 (Ref: 241/22)
An Introduction to the Results Analysis Package (RAP) is taking place online via the Catholic Schools New South Wales Professional Learning Platform on December 16 2022 from 9.00 – 10.30am.
This course has been developed specifically to meet the needs of teachers new to RAP or desiring a refresher. NESA staff will guide teachers on navigating functions within RAP that will assist in analysing the HSC results released the previous day.
Completing this course will contribute 1 hours and 30 minutes of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of the delivery and assessment of the NSW curriculum/EYLF addressing standard descriptors 5.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Curriculum Reform: Aboriginal Languages Syllabus (Ref: 239/22)
The new Aboriginal Languages K–10 (2022) syllabus was released last week. This syllabus can be taught from 2024.
Timeline
2023 Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2024 Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
- Year 9 elective.
Students who commenced the 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study the Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus (2003) in 2024.
The syllabus will be available on the Digital Curriculum.

THIS THURSDAY : School Counsellor Webinar: Managing Suicidality and Self-Harm (Ref: 229/22)
Catholic Schools NSW launched systemwide guidelines for managing students with suicidality and self-harm on 12 September 2022. These were developed in response to an increasing number of students presenting with these issues and were developed in partnership with The Black Dog Institute.
In order to assist with the roll out of these guidelines, The Black Dog Institute will be presenting a webinar next Thursday, 27 October 2022 from 3:30pm -4:30pm.

Professional Learning Opportunity - LivingWorks (Ref: 230/22)
The NSW Government is providing free workshops on suicide reduction for staff involved with students from years 9-12. The training is supplied by LivingWorks.
A free demonstration workshop will be held at the Mantra Chatswood on 1 November 2022.
The workshop will include a 3-hour training (NESA accredited). It will be followed by lunch & a meeting regarding general issues affecting the mental health and wellbeing of Catholic school students. Focus is on schools based on Sydney’s North Shore & Northern Beaches.

Registrations NOW OPEN: 2023 'Transition to Year 7' Assessment Package (formerly Best Start Year 7) available to Catholic Schools New South Wales schools (Ref: 233/22)
Transition to Year 7 is an optional online literacy and numeracy assessment package available to secondary schools in Term 1, replacing Best Start Year 7. Assessments are completed by students in participating schools between 8 February and 10 March 2023.

There is no cost to participate in the Transition to Year 7 assessment.
All schools wishing to participate in 2023 will need to complete the online opt in form by Friday, 25 November 2022.

"Mighty Heroes" - New Resources eSafety Commission (Primary School) (Ref: 233/22)
“Mighty Heroes” is a new lower primary curriculum aligned classroom resource that features four short-animated videos with accompanying educator notes. It also includes downloadable posters and a family tech agreement to help parents continue the conversation at home.
Bring the Mighty Heroes into your classroom:

2023 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations Expressions of Interest for a Committee Member - Business Studies (Ref: 245/22)
The CSSA provides teachers and students in schools throughout New South Wales, ACT and internationally with high quality Trial HSC Examinations that will provide a sound basis for their preparation for the HSC examinations later in the year. The CSSA Trial HSC Examinations are prepared by committees of practicing teachers, university lecturers and education consultants in a variety of HSC courses.
