RSL and Schools Remember Anzac Commemoration 2022 (Ref: 079/22)

The Annual RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Commemoration will be available to download for virtual attendance from 4 April through to 29 April. It is up to each schools’ discretion how and when the students attend this virtually delivered  Commemoration, via school assembly or in class.

  1. Download and print the Order of Service, which can be found here

 

  1. During the wreath laying portion of the service, you may choose to pause the video to go a lay a floral tribute locally.

 

  1. Select a student from your school to recite The Ode live

During the service, when the video says The Ode you should pause the video, have the selected student stand up and face their fellow students and recite The Ode. The words can be found on the screen of the video or in the Order of Service.

As outlined in the Order of Service, students should respond accordingly at the end with:

  • We Will Remember Them
  • Lest We Forget

 

  1. Students are encouraged to sing along to the hymn Abide with Me and also the Australian National Anthem during the service.

 

  1. Please share images or video of the students “attending” the 69th Annual RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Commemoration with us to [email protected]

 

By sharing these images and video you are giving RSL NSW, Department of Education, Catholic Schools NSW and Association of Independent Schools NSW permission to use on websites, social media and for marketing purposes.


2022 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations (Ref: 071/22)

Note: The 2022 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations online ordering closing date has been extended until 9am, Friday 8 April 2022  (Week 11, Term 1).

The CSSA, a division of Catholic Schools NSW, creates high-quality CSSA Trial HSC Examinations.  Contributors have syllabus expertise and extensive teaching experience to create Trial HSC Examinations.

The dates for the 2022 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations are Monday 1 August through to Monday 15 August 2022. The Security Period is up to and inclusive of 8am, Thursday 18 August 2022.

2022 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations online ordering is available now until 9am, Friday 8 April 2022  (Week 11, Term 1).

The 2022 Draft CSSA Trial HSC Examination Timetable is provided in the Principal Information Package and is also available on the CSSA website.

The 2022 Final CSSA Trial HSC Examination Timetable will be emailed to Principals in Week 1, Term 2 and will then be made available on the CSSA website.

School data can be changed by individual schools via the CSSA website |Account Settings. Relevant personnel in CSSA registered schools should ensure that school data available and new fields of information on the CSSA website is checked, updated and completed as necessary. This will ensure that your School’s address, phone number, email address and contact details are correct – this information is critical for the delivery of CSSA Trial HSC Examinations. Remember to click on “SAVE” at the end of the process.

If a Principal requires technological assistance with sign-in to their registered school account in the CSSA website, please email [email protected] There is a Catholic Schools New South Wales verification process in place to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of each Principal and their registered account with the CSSA.

NAPLAN reforms commencing 2023 (Ref: 085/22)

Changes to NAPLAN arrangements from 2023 have been agreed to by education ministers and were announced on Wednesday 16 March by Minister Stuart Robert, Acting Minister for Education.

  • From 2023, NAPLAN will move to Term One and the existing triennial NAP Sample assessments for Years 6 and 10 in Science, Civics and Citizenship, and Digital Literacy will move from October to Term Two.
  • In addition to the NAP Sample program, new annual assessments in these subjects for Year 6 and Year 10 students will be available as opt-in assessments for any school or system. They will be phased in over three years, starting with Science in 2024, with Civics and Citizenship added in 2025 and then Digital Literacy in 2026.
  • Results of these opt-in assessments will be available to participating schools and systems in order to support their teaching and learning programs, but will not be reported publicly by ACARA.

NAPLAN, which has always been held in the second week of May, will move to mid-March from 2023. In 2023, NAPLAN will be held from Wednesday 15 March to Monday 27 March.

 


Professional Learning

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) 2022 Quality Assurance Professional Learning (Ref: 076/22)

Catholic Schools New South Wales will be facilitating two professional learning opportunities early in Term 2, designed to enhance quality assurance processes for the 2022 NCCD.

1-2022 Inter-Diocesan Sector Moderation Day (3 May 2022) Details for this face-to-face event have been distributed to Diocesan and RI/MPJP Networks. Please see your NCCD contact for further information.

2.-2022 Quality Assurance & Moderation Online Workshop The purpose of this professional learning is to assist staff who are new to the NCCD process, in making consistent and reliable decisions regarding a student’s level of adjustment and category of disability. 

The training will focus on quality assurance and will include the features of moderation along with the supporting resources from the NCCD portal. There will be guidance on how to prepare for and carry out moderation. Participants will moderate various case studies throughout the session to enhance their understandings.

AUDIENCE: This live 90 minute webinar training has been developed specifically for:

* New learning support / pastoral care staff
* NCCD team members who would benefit from a moderation refresher
* New school leadership members who are involved with the NCCD

NESA ACCREDITATION: Completing the Quality Assurance & Moderation Online Workshop

The webinar will contribute 1 hour and 30 minutes of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Students with Disability.

It is specifically addressing standard descriptor 4.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Registrations Open - Sue Larkey presents: Developing Social Skills for Children with Diverse Learning Needs – the Early Years (0-7) (Ref: 072/22)

Catholic Schools New South Wales are excited to announce a collaboration with Sue Larkey to provide a live 3-part webinar series – ‘Developing Social Skills for Children with Diverse Learning Needs – the Early Years’. This course is being offered for the first time and has been created for early childhood teachers in NSW Catholic schools.

Teachers will learn, explore and discuss the following:

  • Social and emotional learning (SEL) and its foundation for learning. How can we support neurodiverse children with SEL?
  • How to support students’ engagement with peers by increasing their interactions, development of friendships and regulation of emotions.
  • Practical strategies to implement with your whole class.
  • The power of relationships and the importance of working in partnership with families.
  • How this learning connects to the new NSW English syllabus and Disability Standards for Education.

Sue Larkey is a highly qualified special educator in mainstream and special schools. Sue is uniquely positioned within the education system having taught both as a primary school teacher and a special education teacher. She combines this practical experience with extensive research, having completed a Masters in Special Education.

Applications now open- Catholic Schools New South Wales Instructional Strategies: Video Modelling Short Course (Ref: 083/22)

Applications for the new on-demand online Catholic Schools New South Wales Instructional Strategies: Video Modelling Short Course are now open for staff who work daily with a cohort of students in both systemic and non-systemic Catholic schools.

Target Audience:
Teachers who support students with intellectual disabilities and / or ASD. Teacher assistants are welcome to apply in partnership with a classroom teacher

Registrations Open - “Dangerous Ideas” Symposium – Vocational Education & Training (VET) (Ref: 067/22)

Catholic Schools NSW is facilitating the “Dangerous Ideas “ Symposium – Vocational Education & Training (VET) delivered to Secondary Students

The event is hosted by Catholic Schools New South Wales and inclusive of the CSSA, a division of Catholic Schools New South Wales.

This event will bring together key industry leaders, Catholic school leaders and system educators to discuss current issues and opportunities to extend the educational pathways, opportunities, and outcomes available to students.

Who should attend: Principals, School Leadership, Post-School Pathways Coordinators, VET Coordinators, Career Practitioners and Stage 5-6 Year Coordinators.

Date:  Friday 20 May 2022

Time:  8.30am-4:30pm

Location: Sydney Masonic Centre – 66 Goulburn Street, Sydney. The location is close to Museum Train Station or Secure Parking Stations.

This can be recorded as 6.5 hours NESA Elective PD addressing the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:

Menzies School Leader Fellowship (Ref: 078/22)

The aim of the Menzies School Leader Fellowship is to incubate, test and learn about the leadership challenges, and through the process, contribute to building a pipeline of school leaders.

The Menzies School Leader Fellowship is a two-year, $150,000, leadership development initiative with an explicit focus on increasing the skills and capabilities of leaders to build collective efficacy.

The program will award four fellowships in 2022.

National COVID Vaccine Taskforce (Ref: 080/22)

Lieutenant General John Frewen DSC AM, Coordinator-General, National COVID Vaccine Taskforce and Prof Paul Kelly, Chief Medical Officer have requested assistance from principals to encourage COVID-19 vaccination in the school community.

The request is focused on primary school principals with regard to vaccinations for 5-11 year olds.

NEW and FREE teacher resource: Early Learning EAL/D animation series (Ref: 073/22)

The Early Learning EAL/D animation series explores how teachers can support students whose first language is a language or dialect other than English. Each video is linked to the new NSW English syllabus and provides practical strategies to support teachers as they develop teaching and learning programs.

The resource has been developed to:

  • advise teachers about areas of the curriculum that EAL/D students may find challenging
  • help teachers understand students’ cultural and linguistic diversity, and the ways this understanding can be used in the classroom
  • provide examples of teaching strategies supportive of EAL/D students
  • recognise the important role families play in their child’s learning and how this learning supports a child’s lifelong educational journey.

NESA WriteOn 2022 competition now open (Ref: 084/22)

The WriteOn 2022 competition is now open and closes at 4:00pm Friday 17 June.

WriteOn is an annual writing competition open to all NSW primary students in Years 1 to 6, including home-schooled students. Students compose an imaginative text of up to 500 words, using an image as the stimulus. The 2022 WriteOn stimulus can be found here.

This competition provides students with the opportunity to become published authors and showcase their incredible creativity. It can be used as a whole class teaching activity or an individual project. To maximise the purpose of the competition, teachers are encouraged to refer to the NSW English Syllabus outcomes. Winning entries from last year’s competition have been published in The Best of WriteOn 2021, which can be purchased from the NESA Shop.


Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) 2021 National Report- Now Available (Ref: 086/22)

The 2021 AEDC National Report is now available. Please find here the official notice of release.

School principals will receive an email with a unique link to download their full AEDC School Profile Addendum. This addendum includes trend data for all collections in which the school participated, as well as state, territory and national results to enable comparison.

Wellbeing in Australian Schools, 2021 Report (Ref: 087/22)

Recently, the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) released its Spotlight report, Wellbeing in Australian Schools.

The report details the importance of wellbeing for school leaders, teachers and students, and the critical role educators and school communities play when it comes to supporting a learner’s wellbeing.

ACEL NSW Branch News: Nominations open for the 2022 Annual Branch Awards (Ref: 088/22)

NSW ACEL Leadership awards are now open. More than ever, amongst a year of crisis and uncertainly, the importance of recognising our colleagues for the extraordinary skill, knowledge and value to the profession is critical to us valuing and harnessing the expertise and goodwill that has flowed from the pandemic. This year’s awards will be recognised in the following leadership categories, including a new category ACEL NSW Team Leadership Award.

The ACEL NSW Awards are conducted as part of a formal ceremony including a dinner, presentations and networking, with individual and group registrations available. More details will be available closer to the evening.
