Register Now: Hartford College's 'Mastering education: Why Some Boys Flourish in a Modern World' (Ref: 233/24)
Hartford College is hosting Dale Ahlquist, a leading expert on G.K. Chesterton’s life and work, for an evening on 1 November from 6 to 8 PM. The evening will explore the liberal arts education that prioritises faith, critical thinking, and holistic development.
Ahlquist, who founded over 60 Chesteron Network Schools in the U.S., will explore the growing interest in G.K. Chesterton as a model of a ‘complete thinker’ and how this has influenced modern education in schools.
Ahlquist promotes an “atmosphere of Catholic joy,” in education, integrating faith into every aspect of learning. Chesterton schools produce well-rounded, confident graduates who are highly regarded by universities. Dale will discuss how the model encourages cross-disciplinary learning, fosters the art of debate (the ‘Socratic method’), and addresses the crisis of meaning affecting young men today.
This event is perfect for parents of boys in Years 1-9 who are looking for an education that goes beyond the ordinary. If you want your son to become a well-adjusted, joyful, and intellectually equipped individual, this event is for you.
Tickets are $24 per person, click here to purchase.

RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Art Competition for 2025 (Ref: 235/24)
The RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Commemoration was first held in 1953 and co-hosted by RSL NSW and the Department of Education. Over the years the service has expanded to Catholic Schools NSW and the Association of Independent Schools NSW. Proceedings, held at the Anzac Memorial Hyde Park in April each year, are delivered entirely by school students including the Master of Ceremonies, keynote address, readings, and musical accompaniment. The service also includes an Inspection of the Guard by the official party, The Ode, The Last Post, and Rouse. The event aims to educate primary and secondary school students about Australia’s military history, whilst paying respect to the service and sacrifice of servicemen and women of the Australian Defence Force.
The Remember ANZAC Art Competition invites students to create an artwork celebrating the theme ‘110 years of the ANZAC Spirit’. Winning artworks will be selected for the cover of the 2025 RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Commemoration service program and all finalists’ artworks will be displayed at the Anzac Memorial and included in the program.
The competition closes on 1 November 2024.
More information including the guidelines, how to submit artworks, judging and FAQs can be found here.
WriteOn 2024 Award Winners (Ref: 238/24)
Winners have been announced for the NESA’s annual ‘NSW WriteOn Competition’ held in association with the Art Gallery of NSW. On Monday 16 September, the primary school winners were celebrated as published authors at the awards ceremony hosted at the Art Gallery.
The winners were selected by a panel of experienced NSW primary educators from the three education sectors and were awarded bronze, silver and gold certificates for their entries. This year 740 imaginative texts- narratives, poems, diary entries and letters were submitted for judging.
The stimulus artwork by Arthur Streeton The railway station, Redfern (1893) evoked a high standard of responses from students on a wide range of themes, including time travel, kindness, hope, self-discovery, belonging and hard work. The responses reflected the skill and resourcefulness of our young students who came from very diverse backgrounds.
Catholic schools were well represented in the winners, receiving 3 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze awards from the 55 NSW finalists. The awards were presented to the students (and their very excited families and teachers) by Greg Warren MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Early Learning.
