Healthy Kids Association Ceases Operations – No Fruit and Veg Month in Schools (Ref: 146/24)

NSW Health has advised the education sector that the Healthy Kids Association ceased its operations effective 31 May 2024. Therefore, Fruit and Veg Month will not go ahead in September. Schools who registered to participate in Fruit and Veg Month have been advised by the liquidator that the program will no longer continue.

The Ministry of Health will continue to deliver its healthy eating and active living offerings in schools via the Live Life Well @ School program and the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy, with the support of Local Health District Health Promotion Officers.

If schools have any queries relating to menu checks or healthy canteens, they can contact the Healthy Food Information Service on 1800 930 966 between 9 am and 5 pm from Monday to Friday or via email here.

Copyright Tips for Online Image Usage (Ref: 142/24)

The National Copyright Unit (NCU) has released tips for schools to minimise copyright risk when using images on public-facing websites and social media.

Key takeaway messages for schools include:

  • Don’t use images on websites or social media from commercial stock image libraries, public websites or social media unless your school has purchased an appropriate licence.
  • Don’t use images copied or communicated under the Statutory Licence on public websites or on social media (see here).
  • Regularly review content on public-facing websites and social media. Take down any images that are no longer needed.
  • Always attribute and label images used on websites and social media (see here).

Only use images on websites or social media if your school:

  • owns the copyright in the image
  • has permission or a licence to use the image from the copyright owner;
  • the image is licensed under Creative Commons (see here); or
  • the image is in the public domain.
